AMY PURDY (ALMA)

For the role of Alma, Casting Director Michelle Metzner sent out a nation-wide casting call to all the organizations working with amputees. Amy Purdy, a double amputee from Las Vegas, was the first to respond.

This would never have happened if it weren’t for one life threatening experience. At the age of 19, Amy was rushed to the hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms for 24 hours. 32 blood transfusions later, she was diagnosed with the deadly Neissieria Meningitis. She lost her legs, but, miraculously, was the first person in Las Vegas to survive this ordeal in 20 years.

Everything changed for Amy. Simple things like getting out of bed now required great effort. People stared at her prosthetic legs. She wondered what the man she liked would think of her legs. All of these incidents created the psychological and emotional foundation that Amy drew from to breathe life into the role of Alma.

In addition to “What’s Bugging Seth,” Amy has modeled for various photography projects, including Freedom Innovations Runway" prosthetic foot ads, and is currently featured in the first edition of Fugue Magazine," an art, culture, and music magazine." Amy plans to continue challenging herself with her athletic and artistic passions and hopes through Adaptive Action Sports she will help others do the same. This is a true testament to Amy's Spirit.
